The 15th day of the eighth lunar month marks the Chinese Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is September 18th this year. This is a time for families and loved ones to come together and enjoy the full moon. The traditional mooncake is a reminder of family reunions.

In preparation for the festival, Chinatown’s Eastern Bakery produces 20,000 to 30,000 moon cakes each day for six weeks at its Mason Street.

The Autumn Moon Festival was celebrated in San Francisco’s historic Chinatown on September 10 and 11 with performances and parades.
